As a holistic therapist oftentimes I see clients who experience depression and PTSD will experience anxiety as well. I find that given the current state of the world lots of people are dealing with a lot anxiety. From COVID-19, social justice issues, homeschooling, working from home and everything in between it can be very anxiety inducing for many people especially if they already struggle with their mental health. Here are a few holistic methods I find helpful for anxiety management.
Holistic Therapy And Medications
Holistic therapy is meant to be dynamic in how you are recovering from your anxiety symptoms. When you are anxious you should ideally be able to implement more than one coping mechanism to recover. In some cases medication may still be recommended but you may be able to manage your anxiety without medication or with a combination of medication and coping practices. You will have to determine what is appropriate and what will meet your needs for your situation. If you are working with a psychiatrist then consult with them as to what would work for you as well.
Practice Makes It Better
Healthy practices in a traditional therapy session are great however if you are not able to practice outside your session or you cannot measure your growth then you likely won’t get far ahead. For example if you have a session and you are discussing coping mechanisms to manage your anxiety, talking is great but if you can’t practice the coping strategies then you won’t be able to achieve your results. As we have discussed before holistic therapy is meant to be dynamic so multiple approaches will be applied to achieve results. My holistic therapies include physical movement, nutritional mood management and helping you implement a self care plan for reducing your anxiety. During a session with me we would explore all of those methods collectively.
Holistic Tools For Anxiety
Some of the tools that are used in holistic therapy may be tools that are not traditionally found in therapy. For specific anxiety management treatment you may choose to use aromatherapy, body work technique, environmental organization or exploring how to optimize your schedule for ease and flow. As you can see there are numerous ways to integrate holistic practices into your anxiety management program whether you decide that you are going a traditional route or using a more holistic approach.
My Favorite Holistic Therapy Tools
As a Holistic Therapist, I have to say my favorite therapy tools include therapeutic aromatherapy for anxiety management. Some of my favorite essential oils for anxiety include chamomile, frankincense, veviter, lavender and Basil essential oils. I also love acupressure, Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique), and acupuncture. Another really great holistic practice for anxiety is to reduce screen time to 60 minutes or less per day as far as leisure activities like scrolling social media or spending time on social networking interactions. Last but not least a great holistic anxiety reduction tool is to infuse daily meditation into your personal practice even 5 minutes a day can be a helpful and healthy energy and mind balance practice.
