What is important to remember when it comes to aromatherapy it’s very important to utilize therapeutic grade essential oils instead of chemically enhanced fragrance oils. When you utilize essential oils that are clean and free of synthetic fragrance and chemicals you are ensuring your wellness outcomes to be increased and more effective without side effects that may present from synthetic fragrances, which can be harmful. It’s worth noting that essential oils also require attention to detail for use, there is potential to have too much of a good thing if you don’t consider the appropriate amount of aromatherapy. An example would be to use 10 drops of your essential oil with 1 cup of water vs. using 50 drops of essential oil with ½ cup of water. When you apply your aromatherapy ideally you are using a therapeutic ratio for the method you select. From there the essential oil should be within range of your sense of smell for better effect. The essential oil fragrance then activates your smell receptors, which send information to your limbic system. Your limbic system is responsible for mood, emotional awareness, physical and mental emotional reactivity. Within 20 minutes you may find the benefits of the essential oils to increase with noticeable improvement of your mood.
