I’ve been studying Reiki for the last two years so I’m excited to dive into this post on self reiki for beginners. I’ve attended private reiki courses as well as read numerous books on the subject like Reiki for Life. I have not taken a course to be officially certified but I do feel I have learned and practiced enough on my own that I can share a lot of valuable information on this subject.
WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki itself is a word that equates to understanding life. Reiki originated in Japan in the early 1920’s. It draws on the benefits of channeling life energy to your chakras for an optimized life. Self reiki is the concept that all of us individually have access to a deep power source that cannot be depleted or turned off. According to reiki we can tap into this higher energy source in order to heal ourselves. It’s a great tool to promote healing in our lives, incorporate into our stress management system and many more options. Reiki can also be applied to pets, spaces in your home and other living beings.
REIKI BASICS
I’m going to break down the components of reiki based on what I’ve learned and in my practice as clear as possible. There are about three key components that make up reiki.
The first component is being in an intentional meditative state. You don’t need to have an intense meditation but you are making a mental space to observe, connect and engage with your self practice. This could look something like taking a few deep breaths and focusing your thoughts on self reiki and healing.
The second component is all about voicing your intention. To voice your intention with reiki means that you are using a reiki activation phrase. You can make your own phrase or find one that will work for you. It can be beneficial to design your own phrase so it aligns best with who you are for the most impact. An example of a reiki intention statement would be something like I intend to release the healing power of reiki for my best self and highest good.
The third component would be your hand placement. In my experience with reiki our hands are our vehicle to move the reiki energy through the different parts of our body. I personally find that I like to align my palms with wherever I want to focus the energy. I’ve found that the palms are more powerful than the fingertips. If I was working on my crown chakra then I would place my palms at the center of my head.
CHAKRAS AND REIKI
During my practice and studying I realized that reiki is very closely related with chakras as we utilize the chakras to move the energy through the body. If you aren’t familiar we have energy points in our body that relate to our spiritual, physical and mental self. The placements that I have found most simplistic to work with align with the standard chakra points of crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral and root. I created a functional art piece to help you with this. It’s my self reiki healing chart. This chart will show you the hand placements as well as provide you with three reiki statements that I use to activate my self reiki practice.
