Hello, Wellnista!
Let's chat about something we love, let's talk Hair Care, Regimen, and Products oh my!
I've been using natural and holistic products on my hair and have realized, with consistency and quality products that nourish my hair and scalp, healthy hair is easily achievable.
I have a simple and effective 5 step regimen that is perfect for Natural Hair Wellnista's and for anyone who is transitioning to holistic and green hair care products.
But First, Hair Stats:
In case anyone is interested in my hair type and stats, I have type 4b-4c natural loc'd hair that is color treated. Please use my regimen as a guide and only apply the parts of my regimen that you feel is useful for your hair type. Also please listen to what your hair likes and doesn't like as your ultimate guide.
The WDR (Wash Day Routine) of it:
To best explain my process I'm going to walk you through my Wash Day Routine step by step.
Step 1 Pre- Wash & Clarify: I use a half and half blend mixture of Apple Cider Vinegar with Distilled Water to pre-wash and clarify my hair. I use a spray bottle to spray the mixture all over my hair from my roots to the ends of my hair. I massage the mixture into my scalp and down my hair shaft allowing for the mixture to soak in for 10-15 minutes. I water rinse the mixture from my hair before shampooing.
Step 2 Shampoo: I use a moisturizing shampoo bar to add moisture. My current favorite shampoo bar is the Fruit Smoothie Natural Hair Shampoo Bar (pictured above). I love it because it's easy to use while showering without having to stop and open a bottle of shampoo. This is a moisture rich time saver! After I have the shampoo bar lather applied to my hair, I allow the product to absorb for at least 1-2 minutes before rinsing the lather away. You can find the shampoo bar at www.mywellnesslabshop.com.
Step 3 Shampoo AGAIN: For my second shampoo, I love to use a different shampoo to keep my hair from creating an "ingredient tolerance" to my favorite products. For my second shampoo, I love the Alafia Brand Everyday Coconut Shampoo. I purchase from Amazon.com but you can also find this shampoo in Whole Foods and other Health Food Stores. I make sure to take my time and thoroughly rinse all of the lather from my hair.
Step 4 Condition: I have color treated hair and I want to make sure to be consistent with my moisture regimen in order to protect my hair health and scalp health. I primarily apply the conditioner to my scalp and the color treated portions of my hair. I currently use the Alafia Everyday Coconut Conditioner, which can also be found on amazon.com or at most health food stores. I allow the conditioner to absorb for 1-2 minutes before throughally rinsing my hair to squeeky clean fabulousness.
Step 5 Moisturize: I use avocado oil currently because it is light weight and absorbs quickly. My hair is left shiny, vibrant and healthy. This oil can be found on amazon.com and also at local health food stores.
* Throughout the week, I apply leave in conditioner every other day and sometimes daily and depending on what my hair seems to need; I will also water rinse my hair once or twice a week.
