What Is Holistic Therapy?
Holistic therapy involves integrating more than one dynamic approach to achieve health and wellness goals. Holistic therapy can vary depending on the practitioner that you use because there are many different modalities to consider. For example with Brandi Jackson Wellness I incorporate physical fitness, nutrition as well as therapy specializing in anxiety, depression, PTSD and transitional stress. Because there are so many varying types of holistic therapy some practitioners may offer sound healing, therapy and yoga or other forms of health and wellness like another holistic therapist friend of mine. When you are researching a holistic therapist It’s important for you to consider what works for you and what will be the best fit for you to achieve your health and wellness goals. If something like yoga isn’t your style you may not want to work with someone who uses yoga as one of their main branches of their practice. If you are someone who enjoys physical fitness then you may consider working with me as I provide physical fitness as a way to help you improve your mental and physical wellness. The beauty of having holistic therapists with unique wheelhouses means that there is someone out there that is best suited to support you on your wellness journey.
Holistic Therapy also includes additional framing around choosing actions that will help you take good care of your emotional mental health while also having a positive outcome for your physical self. This may include nutrition for working on your wellness from the inside out. Some questions I like to support my client’s to ask is 1. Will this practice help me? 2. Can this practice help me in other areas of my life? 3. Will this process cause me any harm and if so, what are my alternatives.
What is Integrative Therapy?
Integrative therapy means that you are applying more than one therapy technique when working with a client in a therapy session. In my particular practice when I am working with a client who needs motivation to continue a healthy behavior I might use motivational interviewing technique which is simply a tool that assists clients in getting the most out of their practice. The client may also bring something else into the session that requires a different approach. For example they may share that in order to achieve one of their goals they need to get up earlier then as a holistic therapist I may explore options to integrate essential oils, developing a plan to organize their morning routine, or investigate barriers that may be getting in the way of an effective morning routine. I may also combine organization, coaching or pull in family systems theory. Essentially I would flex my approach to what may be useful for my client. In any given session there are numerous approaches that can be applied depending on what the client has brought into the session. Something to note when you are looking for an integrative therapist is most therapist unless they are specialized in a specific area are likely practicing integrative therapy when working with clients.
